As you know, the IRS believes in ENFORCEMENT BY INTIMIDATION.Every year at the beginning of “tax season,” the IRS widely distributes a press release naming its Dirty Dozen Tax
Scams. Implied title: We (IRS) Know how you taxpayers are cheating.
The purpose, clearly, is to get the media to “cover” the
Dirty Dozen, as if they were news. And the spineless media
obliges. The purpose, of course, is to scare you out of claiming some
of your legitimate tax deductions, fearing you may run afoul of
one of those nasty Dirty Dozen.
Phone scams
Phishing
Preparer fraud
Hiding money offshore
Fake charities
False income, expenses or exemptions
Frivolous arguments about no legal need to file
Falsely claiming zero wages or using a false 1099 form.
Abusive tax structures
Misuse of trusts
Why am I sending you this “Tax Tips You Can Bank On?” Because, although (a) I do not condone anyone cheating on
their taxes, (b) I definitely do not encourage anyone to cheat
themselves out of tax deductions you legitimately qualify for.
READ THIS CAREFULLY – If you fear the IRS, it is only
because you do not know how they operate. BUT when you DO know how they operate, you will know how to protect yourself from
them. A week ago I hosted “the ultimate IRS insider,” Dan Pilla on
a special web briefing called “Secrets of an IRS Insider.” Did
you miss that briefing? If so… My strongest recommendation to you is:
